Overview
The website for the Sioux City Beer League, adult recreational hockey at the IBP Ice Center, running on HockeyCove, our custom league plugin for schedules, box scores, standings, player stats and team pages.
The project
What we did
We built the league's website and HockeyCove, a custom WordPress® plugin that runs the league's data. Teams, players, games, seasons and divisions are stored as structured records that feed the schedule and results, every box score, the standings, player and goalie stats, the league leaders and each team's page.
HockeyCove covers two divisions and full seasons of play, with skater and goalie stats, shootout results and win streaks. The plugin uses very little JavaScript, and the game strip, stats tabs and results pages still work if scripts don't load.
How it turned out
The league site now holds more than 60 game pages and 160 player profiles, with 10 teams playing the Fall 2026 season across two divisions.
Schedule and results
Every game, filterable and linked to its box score.
Filtered schedule
Filter by season, division and team, with dates, times, the rink, team records and final scores.
Box scores
Each game has its own page with goals, assists, penalty minutes and points for every skater, and saves and goals against for each goalie.
Shootout results
Games decided in a shootout are marked on the schedule.
Upcoming games
A scrolling strip of upcoming games on the homepage, plus Next Game and Latest Results.
Standings and stats
Updated as games are entered.
Standings
A table for each division with games played, wins, losses, overtime results, goals for and against, goal differential, points and current streak.
Skater stats
Games, goals, assists, points and penalty minutes for every skater, with captains marked.
Goalie stats
Wins, losses, shutouts, saves, goals against, save percentage and goals-against average.
League leaders
Leaders in points, goals and goals-against average, with the top 10 scorers and goalies on the homepage.
Season archives
Each season keeps its own archive.

Team directory
Every team with its logo, player count and record, grouped by division.
Team pages
Record, roster with positions, goalie stats and the team's schedule and results.
Player profiles
Career totals and a season-by-season breakdown for every player.

A menu with teams grouped by division and a quick bar for Register, Drop-In, Schedule and Facebook.
