Overview
The website for TNT Sales & Service in Hinton, Iowa: a catalog of about 780 products from several manufacturers, brought into one consistent format, with custom spec filters, side-by-side comparison and a product finder.
The project
What we did
TNT carries equipment from several manufacturers, and each one supplies its product data differently, with its own spec names, units and categories. We cleaned and reconciled that data into one shared set of 33 specifications, such as PSI, flow in GPM, CFM, voltage, fuel type and BTU, and organized about 780 products into a tree of more than 200 categories. Products are loaded and updated in batches from spreadsheets, and each one is matched on its model and configuration, so a re-import updates the existing product instead of creating a duplicate.
On top of the catalog we wrote a custom plugin for finding the right machine: a spec filter sidebar, side-by-side product comparison, a step-by-step product finder, automatic spec tables on every product page and a product menu that builds itself from the category tree.

One spec format
33 shared specifications, so every brand's products can be filtered and compared the same way.
Category tree
More than 200 categories, from pressure washers and air compressors to floor care, water treatment, generators and trailers.
Spreadsheet imports
New and updated products are loaded in batches and matched on model, so nothing is duplicated.
Product images
Images are matched to each product during import.
Finding the right machine
Custom code written for this catalog.
Spec filters
Shoppers narrow any category or search by specs such as PSI, GPM or fuel type, and results update without reloading the page.
Numeric sorting
Number specs sort in true numeric order, so 1,500 PSI comes before 3,000 PSI.
Product compare
Shoppers add products to a compare list and see their specs side by side.
Product finder
Step-by-step choices lead from a main category down to matching products, with keyword search.
Spec tables
Every product page builds its own specs table automatically.
Self-building menu
The product menu builds itself from the category tree, so new categories appear without menu edits.
Category layouts
Hot and cold pressure washers, inverter and PTO generators, and propane heaters each have their own page layout.
